Legal Sea Foods Becomes Part of Boston Based PPX Hospitality Brands

Legal Sea Foods joins PPX’s existing collection of iconic restaurant brands

PPX Hospitality Brands, a Boston-based hospitality group, announced today the purchase of the Legal Sea Foods Restaurant Group.  The acquisition also includes the purchase of Legal’s Quality Control Center (QCC) located in Boston’s Seaport.  The deal will take effect immediately.

PPX will own and operate all restaurant concepts under the Legal Sea Foods banner, including airport locations.  Roger Berkowitz will retain ownership rights of the Legal Sea Foods name in channels outside of restaurant operations including e-commerce and retail.  Both companies will operate in a complementary fashion, to further expand the iconic brand.

The team at PPX worked diligently with Legal Sea Foods to put this deal together, visiting the restaurants and QCC, working with local suppliers and landlords, and meeting with key management to plan a seamless transition with a people-first perspective.  Active Legal Sea Foods employees have been invited to remain as part of the team, working together with PPX to carry on Legal Sea Foods’ legacy into the future, and when fully operational, PPX hopes to employ 3,000 people across all three companies.

About Legal Sea Foods
Seventy years ago, Legal Sea Foods opened as a fish market in Cambridge, MA and has since cast a wider net – now operating over 25 restaurants along the east coast as well as its own Quality Control Center on Boston Harbor. Legal Sea Foods’ iconic tagline, “If it isn’t fresh, it isn’t Legal!” speaks to its legendary fanaticism for seafood quality and safety. The restaurants serve over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish throughout the year; the menu highlights quintessential New England fare, including its famous New England Clam Chowder that has been served at every Presidential Inauguration since 1981.
